When Should U Go To ER? Do Not Ignore The Potentially Serious Symptoms

Most of the times, it is obvious that a situation can be an emergency and sometimes it may be not. In the heat of the moment, when the health of someone you know rests on your decision, then how do you go about it? We at Sree Vasantham hospitals understand your dilemma.

Conversations with patients reveal so much more to visit an Emergency care in Salem because they do not wish to admit that something is wrong. They try to downplay potentially serious symptoms because they do not wish to be at risk being called a hypochondriac or anyone wasting time to find out if something is not serious.
Of course, we respect and appreciate that families do not wish to unnecessarily wish to waste time or resources, it is better to get to the emergency room and have the reassurance that the issue may not be that serious and then discover it to be the opposite.
General guidelines as to when to visit an emergency room
Call 180 or go to the nearest accident and emergency care immediately if you spot anyone from experiencing any of the following.
  •    Chest pain
  •    Displaced or open wound fractures
  •    Fainting or dizziness
  •    Sudden numbness or weakness
  •    Wheezing, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  •    Bleeding that cannot be stopped
  •    Abdominal pain - especially intense localized pain
  •    Confusion or changes in mental status
  •    Coughing or vomiting blood
  •    Severe headache or head injury
  •    Blood in the urine, or bloody diarrhea
  •    Sudden inability to speak, see, walk or move
  •    Fever with convulsions or any fever
The above symptoms may not be a complete listing but may rather seem to be guidelines. In addition, people must also consider that there may be many other symptoms too. Several of them may appear to be minor but may turn major when they occur at the same time. If a situation arises, you can be certain whether or not a visit to an emergency room is necessary or head to the emergency department for an evaluation.
When must you visit a clinic or an urgent care facility?
If an individual’s symptoms do not meet the above guidelines and you believe that it needs a trip to the nearest accident and emergency care, a call to his/her primary care’s office is a good step. The primary care physician will be able to advise you on the individual situation. It will be deemed appropriate if you wish to go to an urgent care facility or a clinic if you experience the following
  •    Cough, cold or sore throat
  •    Rashes or skin irritations
  •    Fever or flu-like symptoms
  •    Mild injuries
  •    Ear-ache
Always plan ahead to make the right choice. Make sure you think ahead and familiarize yourself with the guidelines listed above that enables you to prepare for any potential emergency. Always think about which emergency room you would prefer for your family and plan the fastest route to get there.
